As we have returned and had a chance to reflect on the past weekend, I am struck by how amazing, loving, and good our God is. This Forest Home weekend, we were centered on Jeremiah 29:11. This verse is pivotal, it is guiding, and this verse shows the character of our great God. It reads, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” What an important message for us all to dwell on, but how incredibly momentous a verse this is for a middle schooler. In this stage of life, these tumultuous and formative middle school years, hearing that God has a good plan for you is everything. As our students try and figure out who they are and who they would like to become, if they can grasp the Spirit of that verse - it’s a game changer.
And games were changed this weekend. By the grace and love of our Heavenly Father, we had three students come to know Christ as their Savior for the very first time. PRAISE GOD! Beyond that, we had many students come to realize that they need to re-focus and re-dedicate their lives to Jesus.
On a personal note, I am humbled and completely overjoyed to be apart of this decision in these student’s lives. For God to give me this opportunity is a huge blessing. I, as well as all the leaders, had the opportunity to have life-changing cabin conversations, the privilege of worshipping alongside these students, and benefit from sound theological teachings.
I will finish this post with what I believe to be a miracle and shows how God works in astonishing ways. Up until about one week before we left, we had a full roster. There were no spots left on the bus - we were set to go. At the last minute, a student had to back out due to a family vacation that came up. One day before we left for camp, another student signed up, taking that newly opened roster spot. As much as I would have loved for the family vacation student to have joined us, I praise God for that open roster spot because that last minute student was one of our three students who gave his life to Christ.
Our God is so good - He proves that time and time again, and this weekend is just another indication.
